Other than they didn't know how to solder? Lol! I would have to guess that they damage something on the board and instead of replacing the component they decided to jump past. I haven't looked at the particular point being used but I believe they are by passing a resistor. It could be that there is a trace on the board that is damaged and they are jumping around the bad point. Bottom line this type of damage typically happens from something shorting out such as the wires going to the bed heater or so forth. I would guess that as long as it's working leave well enough alone.
