New 1.1 Plus, Filament Options?
#1
I just got my Da Vinci 1.1 Plus delivered and can't seem to find much information about using 3rd party filament, since it's pretty new. Anyone have any info, or can I contribute any info?
I'm new to 3D printing, but have an IT background and would be willing to gather up whatever info I can. Firmware 1.1K is what it shipped with. Currently running through my first cartridge of XYZPrinting brand black ABS filament.
I've printed a few things, but decided to calibrate the print bed. It's a pain to calibrate, but that's probably my fault for reading the manual.
Any calibration tips from folks who own this printer?

Thanks!

A week ago I too recieved the da Vinci 1.1 plus. Just a second ago I managed to reset the cartridge chip using Arduino Uno and code from Oliver Fueckert. So I have 240m ABS again Smile It can be done as well for this printer...
Jump Wires from left to right(45 degree corner): GND, pin7, 5v.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to change it to PLA and other settings.

Thanks everyone for providing the info on this site and I reccomend buying an Arduino Uno g.

Just upload wile connected with the chip of the cartridge.

Thanks a lot! I just ordered an Arduino Uno. I have a basic idea of where to start. I'm trying to start a club/group in my area, too.
Thanks, again.

NP, I hope it will work out for you. Step by step the prints get better Smile

Mine will be here tomorrow. Did you have to do anything to reset it that wasn't in the article?

Hi all,

Just ordered my 1.1 plus. Should be here by the end of the week. From what I understand so far the cartridge system is standard and works on all the different machines. However, it seems the printer software is getting smart and now recording / checking the status of the filament cartridge with data it's holding online. It seems you can still reset the counter I think but it now longer reads the max temps from the eeprom, is this correct?

I too haven't found many posts regarding the 1.1 plus. My main aim it to use a separate filament placed on top of the unit and fool the printer into thinking its PLA / ABS etc. I think I would be happy with this for now. Is it just a case I flash the eeprom with either a PLA version or a ABS version? I'm assuming as long as it's not connected to the internet it will not be able to track the amount used?

Sorry for all the questions but I really need to be able to use 3rd party filament to keep the costs down on the prints.

I've programmed with the Arduino before and understand the code inside and what it's doing so hopefully I just just be able to replicate new cartridges each time.

thanks,

Steve

OK, received my printer today and it came with an ABS Cart. I did a bit of printing before I started to play, but my eeprom read as...

I thought it was strange that the ABS is now 40 rather than 41.. anyway

First I flashed the eeprom with ABS White 240m and checked it on the printer and it came up correct.

I then flashed it to a PLA cart.. with these settings. I got the temps off xyz's site.

Material - PLA (0x50)
Ex Temp - 190C
Bed Temp - 45C
240M

Checked and it worked :-) To check I opened up an STL in xyz and when I sliced it, it set it up as a PLA print. I sent it to the printer and started the print, it then started to heat the bed to 45 and the extruder to 190.. so happy days :-)

I did need to alter the code a little by adding material which can be grabbed from http://www.diyrc.co.uk/images/ABSorPLA.txt

I will be doing a bit more work on the code so it will be easier to choose which material but I'm very happy for now!

Many thanks for all those that have put work into this.

Hi, short question from me. I took the code and the printer says everything ok. Then is take an STL into xyzware and after slicing and pushing the print button in the dialog there is an error on my pc: "flexible cartridge is not supported by your printer"

any ideas?

Another question: PLA printing is bad thing on the 1.1 plus. I always have problems after a while and the extruder is "clicking" because the filament isn't going through. Did anyone made a hardware hack for the 1.1? Like the things done for the 1.0?

Fabian - These issues you mention deserve a new thread. please start a new topic so people will see your post. The short answewr is the DV is no so great with PLA until it has been upgraded. There is (was? I havent been to the manufacturer site in forever...)  an extruder upgrade from the manufacturer. Otherwise, look at upgrading to an e3d or similar.
