What is thread suppose to prove? That we can print PLA after upgrading the hotend to an E3D? I am fairly confident that everyone knows that this is the case. If you are talking about not running a layer fan then yeah, but that has no affect on the 'clicking', which is actually stripping might I add.

Any chance you could share how you mounted the E3D ?

yes we know "That we can print PLA after upgrading the hotend to an E3D"
BUT, you maybe need to move the extruder(like your design)
maybe need to change fan's angle
maybe need to disassemble the machine
maybe need to add more fan to dissipate heat
even you do all of those
you still can't print PLA
because extruder is clicking........

so, I try another way to design [strike]extruder[/strike]hotends
JUST design the heat sink as big as I can
then problems were solved
that is all!
maybe you can try~~

Hi - I watched all video and cannot see anywhere what did you changed - just saw the results
Like Scott wrote before, can you share what you did and how you did to reach this result ?
FW / Mod, etc ...

Thanks,

Hi Luc, thank you for your contribution
I learned many things from your post. :cheer:

I use E3d nozzle & heat break
heater & thermistor no change
I only design the heat sink
A very big heat sink
(maybe I can sell it~ :woohoo: )

FW is 1.1.G
use slic3r or Simplify3D to get G-code
and use XYZopenmod to print

How do you keep same position for Nozzle if same carriage ? E3D is bigger than stock no ?

Pictures of your mod would be good.

In the videos it looks like the nozzle is way lower than the stock position so surely he's losing 2-3 cm of build height.

So if you are already using the E3D nozzle and heatbreak, what's the point on making your own heat sink for it? I suppose just to save some money from buying the original one but unless you have the tools and skills to make it, I'd rather spend a little bit more and buy the E3D with a heat sink. The standard assembly works just great with PLA, no clicking whatsoever.

2-3 cm is too much
maybe less than 1cm

because the original one is too "long"
you put all the E3D V6 hotends into XYZ
it wiil hit the bed and can not print...... (just in my experience~~~)

it longer about 1cm
why I have 2 hotends...
because I have 2 machine (all JP1) :cheer:[Image: IMAG2660.jpg][Image: IMAG2661.jpg]

Fair enough, that's a decent reason Smile

Some of us have actually raised the stepper to avoid that problem... see http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:707530

I'd like to see some high-res pics of you mod Smile

Um yeah, there are several designs out there right now for direct drive with the e3d... IE you DON'T NEED TO MOVE THE EXTURDER STEPPER. Plus why not just flash to Repteir, and take out all extra fabricating?! I don't know I can appreciate what you are trying to do, but I personally dont think it is the best/most efficient method.
