XYZWare Open Mod
dual extruder support would be fantastic!

any idea when dual extruder support might be available?

thinking about trying luc's repetier FW, but would much rather use open mod.

I downloaded the mod (1.1.29.42) Then i copied the Mod Exe to the XYZ ware folder and renamed the Original XYZware .org.

When i click on the shortcit, I get the XYZware as it has always loked. It will import slic3r g code, but i do not have all the settings
of repetier And My screen doesnt k look anything like the screen captures that I see here on the forum.

So, I guess I have missed one step that everyone has taken based on better experience. Do I create a New XYZ folder for the Mod? Then what else needs to be in thereas well....?

YES!! That is what I am looking for in the MOD ( picture above)

All i see is X the standard XYZware screen. No Menu bar, no integrated Slic3r Or Cura type options

What did i miss in the notes???

If you have Skype, we could work through this, It took me a while to get it up and running but now the da Vinci is a totally different animal.....

For some reason, the shortcut always points to the original XYZware exe file even after renaming it.
Just create a new shortcut to the xyzmod exe and it should work fine.
I had this issue too and a new shortcut fixed it.

When i follow the instructions for this, the xyzware open mod crashes chronically when opening.

I am on the latest firmware though since i didnt know about this till a week after i was using the printer.

Is that the cause? If so can i downgrade to j firmware easily?

So to clarify, when i open it. It takes a VERY LONG TIME To load the 3d area, like over 2 min, if i dont touch the window or try to move it, it works. But if i click anywhere or do anything with the window it says not responding and crashes.


EDIT***

Blocking XYZ exe from outbound connection via firewall fixed it.

Spent 30 mins going thru the files and realized the hang was similar to the original when starting.

How to- Type "firewall" and click on "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Outbound, follow screens, point to XYZ.exe

Stopped using Slic3r gcode w/ the XYZ Mod 112941, couldn't get a decent ABS print. FW G.
Ran stl files and got prints smooth as a babys behind.
With printing PLA, Ill use Slic3r. B9 Creator for supports.
Will see how this new mod goes.

Wanted to say thanks for this great piece of software! Love all the new options and features.

I am having one issue however. The first time I tried to print something with the XYZopen software everything went smoothly at first, but then it just quit. Print was sliced and sent to the printer, it received the job and began warming up but once it reached printing temps the bed lowered back down and nothing ever happened. Now when I try to print anything the printer never even receives the file. I have tried reinstalling XYZware, also tried many different versions. I flashed my machine back to 1.1.E also. Nothing seems to have any affect and it just won't print now. I can however still print using the stock XYZ software.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Decided to give up and went with Repetier firmware. After a bit of tweaking and switching from slic3r to cura it's working great.

It's a shame you gave up, are you in the UK? If not do you speak English? We could Skype and talk you through the setup of the Repetier host, it really does bring the XYZ Da Vinci Alive.....


It's just a shame XYZ tried to lock it down.

I am in the US and I think you misunderstood what I meant. I gave up on the XYZWare Open Mod and just flashed it with the repetier firmware and use Repetier-host now. I think this is probably the optimal setup anyway so it worked out okay. The only issue I am having is the print is off center quite a bit, but I think that is due to my printer shape settings in Repetier-host. It was printing centered on the 0.91 firmware but I went ahead and upgraded to 0.92. Goin to search the forum and see what I can come up with! Just got started with 3d printers three days ago, so I've had to learn quite a bit about the whole process.

Yes I understand you fully now, I also gave up on XYZware as it was too fussy. And rarely got the correct screen. I also flashed mine with 0.91 and run RH 1.0.6, I also have a strange offset heated bed but think I may have found the solution. Someone posted a EPROMs and the bed sizes are different.

my fellow cusion across the pond, if you feel like working together to find a solution to the hotbed, it would be my pleasure

Since changing to RH. I use Resolution. 0.1 and the prints are out of this world, considering I purchased the printer two month old. For a little over $300, I then contacted XYZ and the transferred the warranty into my name.

Other mods I have done although not needed now if you use 1.1.E firmware was the cartridge resetter. I have also printed the 3d printable filament guide. Totally awesome and completely printable.

Are you like me, printing everything for the XYZ and I also have a Velleman k8200 which is up for sale and I'm printing the covered and extra's..... I already have installed a E3d hot end. I can highly recommend them. A super fantastic hot end..... Out of this world.

Thank you very much for the link, I will try out the setting sin the morning. Which won't be too long as it's 03:30 already. In the repetier FW I am sure you know it as an auto bed leveller. By all means give it a god, but I am sure you'll end up on the manual. It's way far quicker and my levelling is off by 0.12mm.......

This also makes the print quality very good.

I tried the auto leveling feature first and it kept failing at point 3 so I quickly gave up and manually leveled it. After a few test prints I am loving the new firmware/software. I need to learn how to optimize my prints through the different settings, but I will get there over time with that part. I have almost zero knowledge on everything in there. Just happy I managed to get it all working properly!
