How to tell whether filament is PLA or ABS ?
#1
I ordered a spool of ABS last week but the seller sent PLA by "mistake" so I sent it back for a replacement.
The ABS came yesterday but I'm not convinced it is actually ABS and not PLA.
There's a sticker on the spool which says ABS but the prints just don't feel as rigid as the xyz ABS, it's much easier to bend. Also, the print quality is pretty poor and it breaks far easier.
What really made me suspicious though was when I tried to dissolve a small piece in acetone. I left it in for half an hour and it didn't even become soft. It's exactly the same as it was before it went in the acetone.
What are your thoughts on this guys and is there any other way to confirm what type of filament it is ?

When lit with a lighter, ABS burns with black smoke, PLA burns with a orange/blue flame and no smoke, just drips.
But beware the molten plastic!

Cheers.
Got the black smoke when I tried it so I guess it is ABS, just not very good quality.
