Filament counter reset
#41
No,you will have to take out the filament cartridge and redo the process again. You can use repetier and not have to do any of this but if you are just starting out and just want to import and print I recommend staying with XYZware and just get a filament reseter.

So if I use repetier I can change the temp on the computer?
I've also ordered an exelfil filament, can I use it at the default temps of xyzware?
So if i get it right I only have to reset the cartridge so it thinks it has enough plastic left, and manually control the temps in repetier?

No,If you use repetier you will not need the filament reset tool. You can change the temp to whatever you want with repetier as long as the printer can handle it.

As far as your filament follow what the suggested temperatures it says to use. It may take some fooling around with. If you hear your extruder clicking that could be because its either to hot and the ABS is in a molten state and the extruder cant extruder it or its to cold and still solid. I usually pick in between the temperature recommendations,This way I can calculate if my temp probe isnt 100 percent accurate and temperature in the room etc.

But I have to use the resetter to reset the length of the spool right?

Not if your using repetier

You only need the reseter if you stay on Stock Firmware.

Hey guys, is the arduino code posted somewhere that has the multiple temperature settings? So I can make my own with dip switches like here?
XYZAP! Rev.3 released!

Thanks!

I saw that one, it doesnt have the settings for the other temps also..
Code:
// extruder temp, default is 210 C for ABS
char et[] = {0xd2,0x00}; // 210 C
//char et[] = {0xe6,0x00}; // 230 C

// bed temp 90 degrees, default ABS
char bt[] = {0x5a,0x00};

John,

It's just Hex numbers:
0xd2 = 210
0xe6 = 230

220 for example would be 0xdc.

Here is a converter if you are not familiar with it:

HI,

I have modified the re-setter code to increment the serial number of the cartridge on every reset, it just reads the current serial and adds 1 to it. It is a bit simple as only takes the first 4 bytes of the serial, but I have yet to see a serial number larger (at least the numerical part). I am using the latest firmware without issues. Let me know if you want the mod, I can post the lines here or upload it somewhere.

Thanks

Hi Matt,

That's a nice improvement Matt.
If you attach the code here I'll update it on Github.

Just received my first 3D printer today and while it printed the star vase very well I'm not too pleased with the quality of my personal stl files so I'm looking at solving two issues. First is filament reset and second is wifi card or custom firmware? (I want to try slic3r vs XYZWare)

Assuming I go with stock firmware for now, what is the cheapest Arduino route? Sainsmart? This seems to be the cheapest one I can find on amazon:

And a small contribution to the thread:

Found this after packet logging XYZWare.

Hi,

Personally I am using a Arduino nano as it was what I had around the house, it doesn't fit in the enclosure you can get but I just dangle the wires outside. You can pick a nano up on ebay for around £3.00 but at this price it won't be using a FTDI chip, so get something more expensive if your using a mac, I have had issues with finding drivers with some of the cheaper Serial to usb adapters on a mac,

Thanks

Oooo, I just had to do another reset on me cart as I used up the 120m previously programmed. Set it to 400m this time and it still works just fine, with the display counting down from 399 m :cheer:

Issue with resetting.

After using the resetter many time , I have had a problem today. I reset my cartridge just like normal and was having issues with the print, so I thought I would have a peek at the reset output with the serial monitor. It turns out that the eeprom looks very wrong and is having a failure when trying to write. ANy body with any ideas?

Here is the output.

On a side note I have two cartridges and both appear to be doing the same. I am using an Arduino connected to the rester pins with 10cm wires, abviouly this might be an issue but I have used the same config many times now without issue.

Thanks

Hi ,

I had a thought just after posting to see what happens if I don't have a ground connection, and the same output, the pins in the resetter had slipped causing no ground connection.

Thanks

On Wctek's site he says to put a jumper on pins 4 & 5 to get 230c. Does that work the same on the current code on github or is it entirely dependent on what you un comment ini file?

if your using the code on the git hub it's dependent on what you uncomment. I believe the Wctek version has been modified for the jumper heat settings.
